Persimmon Taste Test.

Image

After reading this post over on Illustrated Bites – a brilliant blog full of amazing food illustrations – and then coincidentally finding persimmon’s on offer at my local shop I decided to give them a go… I browsed the internet and one of the recommended ways to indulge in persimmons was to cook them off in a little brown sugar and a knob off butter until soft. They were really good [a little like a cross between a peach and an apple] especially with a cheeky scoop of vanilla ice cream, but then perhaps most things taste appealing with a little sugar and butter!? I must make a mental note to hunt out healthier recipes in future, regardless of what my sweet tooth may be telling me…

A Well Deserved Distraction.

Sex on Fire [left]
Passionfuit, cherries and lime delivered with four kicks of tequila, ginger and a flaming lime shell (shame I blew it out before taking the snap really)!

Hibiscus & Ginger [right]
Fresh ginger muddled into Jamaican hibiscus tea, in place of cranberry juice, adds a little depth and touch of spice to every girl’s favourite pretty pink drink.

I’ve actually eaten at this bar before, but having been tempted by the cocktail menu returned to be pleasantly surprised.

Burger and beer, sometimes the simple things are the best. Well my friend had a beer, I had a Cosmopolitan – a meagre attempt to have some class while stuffing a burger in my mouth with meat juices dripping down my hand.

In all honesty I’d never noticed Simple before even though I’ve easily walked down that road hundreds of times since moving to Manchester. Their menu looked pretty good, but sadly the chips were disappointing (greasy and limp) although the burger was a little above average, the drink (and company) were the highlight of my visit.

In fairness, I would go back for a few drinks as the atmosphere was nice and relaxed with an abundance of comfy seating, plus there were a few cocktails on their list which took my fancy. Who knows, if I’m brave enough to give more of their deep-frieds a go I may even their sweet potato wedges a chance.
